Liver Health

Your liver health is critical if you want to be lean, slow down ageing, reduce disease and lift your mood. If you have a toxic liver, you are more likely to store fat, feel sluggish, accelerate ageing and feel irritable and agitated.

With holidays coming up, supporting your liver and preparing for a few extra-rich foods and drinks is wise. It’s all about your detox and retox balance.

You still have time before your holidays to cleanse your liver & drop some unwanted pounds with our Metabolic Reset Pack. You can even do a week or two before you go and save the rest for detox on your return.

Life is to be lived, and you can choose to enjoy yourself, but the smart thing to do is to make sure you support the body’s detox pathways so you can literally have your cake and eat it too.

Your liver is a magnificent forgiving organ and one of the fastest organs to regenerate and heal. If you get your liver in order, it will considerably impact your mental and physical health.

Your liver has many vital functions, such as:

  • Filters your blood to reduce infections
  • Creates ketones to help fat burning and produce energy at a cellular level
  • Supports thyroid function
  • Produces bile and works with the gallbladder to help the body digest fats
  • Vital for the metabolism of fats, proteins, and carbohydrates
  • Converts toxins from the things we eat, drink, breathe or put on our skin so our body can expel them through our sweat, urine & stools

Liver Health & Long-Term Weight Loss

For years I have treated patients who arrive feeling miserable, having cut out all fun foods in their diet and still not reaching their goals. This happens when you reduce your calorie intake to such a low level that you go into starvation, which in turn slows your metabolism down. It is also psychologically not fun if you feel deprived and stress the body, which in turn surges your cortisol and makes it very hard to lose weight.

To crack your fat-loss formula, I look at the function of your metabolism and open up your detox pathways. Most of my patients have a slow metabolism when I meet them. After dealing with eating disorders in the past, I’m well acquainted with the frustration of a slow and sleepy metabolism.

In addition to determining the right nutritional program for each patient, I help them reset their metabolism using our Metabolic Reset Pack. I tailor-made this pack to reset my metabolism and balance blood sugar levels. This, in turn, will reduce your appetite and help break food addictions. This is what used to bring me undone personally.

It would be best to consider fuel (diet) and function for long-term success with staying lean and in optimum health. Our Liver Support Capsules support the function of both your liver & gallbladder.

My ethos is to get you to a healthy metabolism that is functioning well and supports digestion and absorption and all the 11 systems of the body. If you are performing well, you can have more fun with your diet, have your cake, and eat it too.

If you keep eliminating food groups from your diet, you will end up with only fish and lettuce on your plate, feeling miserable and probably not reaching your health goals.

The best option is to support function and then add good clean lifestyle eating habits to get quick results and minimise suffering! At Rejuv, we are anti-suffering, and most patients come back a few weeks after the first session and comment on how easy their plan was and how most of their symptoms have gone; that is music to our ears.

Eating the right foods is essential for getting your body to absorb your food and for your metabolism to convert the calories you eat into a good level of usable energy.

My Top 5 Liver Health Tips

1. Drink Detox Water

Start your day with a kick to clean your liver ad boost fat burning by having a pint of water plus the juice of 1/4 a lemon, half teaspoon of grated ginger, 1-2 pinches of cayenne pepper, a pinch of Celtic sea salt and one teaspoon of fresh aloe vera inner leaf or 30ml aloe vera juice.

Drink 2-3 litres of the Rejuv Wellness Waterper day to hydrate your 50 trillion cells, keeping them like big fat healthy grapes instead of dried-up raisins, allowing goodness to flow in and remove junk. Doing this takes the pressure off all body systems and detoxes the liver, thus boosting your metabolism.

2. Eat Clean & Increase Greens

Eat more plants (especially green veggies). Add a wild protein such as line-caught fish (the smaller, the better). Ensure you include good fats such as avocado, olives and coconut oil to balance your blood sugar, support fat burning and reduce appetite.

Keep your treats to one meal a week; this will keep your metabolism in check but also allow you to psychologically stay strong during the week knowing that you will have your reward on the weekend. Since we win the game in the mind, balance over abstinence is the best.

Your liver, metabolism and overall health love veggie juices, too, and as part of my daily routine, I have a pint of green juice each morning with celery, romaine lettuce, lemon, lime, and ginger. I rotate in grapefruit, beetroot, blueberries, bitter melon, prickly pear, and bitter melon for your liver loves these foods, and they are great for fat burning too.

Your body also needs a good daily dose of chlorophyll, the green photosynthetic pigment found in green plants, to reduce acidic wastes and inflammation, which clog up your liver and cause weight gain. I fast-track this and add two teaspoons of Rejuv Super Greens or the Supergreens I formulated for WelleCo, The Super Elixir, to my green juice each morning.

3. Add Thermogenic Herbs

Thermogenic herbs warm your system up & therefore boost your metabolism by eating more chilli, cayenne pepper, garlic, turmeric, ginger & green tea. Add garlic and onions to at least one meal per day. Choose cloudy apple cider vinegar or lemon juice over regular vinegar to support your liver and gallbladder function and, therefore, fat-burning.

Try our Rejuv Thermo Metabolic Support and Green Coffee Burn to fast-track your metabolic reset.

4. Increase Fibre to Flush Your Liver

Fibre will keep you feeling full and feed your good bacteria by providing prebiotics for your gut. The more good bacteria you have, the more healthy foods you crave and vice versa, so this is key in any long-term metabolic reset success. Fibre also creates faecal bulk in your intestines, helping to draw out toxic waste in your liver and colon so you can expel them in your stool.

So eat lots of veggies and add milled flaxseeds, sauerkraut, chia seeds and psyllium husks. Many find it tricky to get all the fibre they need daily, so they take our Digestive Complex Powder (also part of our Detox pack). Only 1 tsp per day in a glass of water will give you all the fibre you need to help flush toxins, heal your gut and significantly reduce appetite.

5. Reduce Stress For Your Liver Health

Living in a stressed state puts your body into emergency mode (fight or flight), which exhausts your adrenals, prevents your body from healing and produces more cortisol which acts like a fat magnet making you hold body fat, just in case this was a real life-threatening danger and this body fat would protect you from famine.

That is the reason this stress response was created to protect us from danger, but your brain can’t distinguish if your stress is work or relationship related or if indeed a real threat and you need to ‘fight the tiger or take flight and run up a tree to save your life.

Staying present today and not stressing about yesterday or tomorrow is critical.

Stress hormones significantly reduce fat-burning capacity and overall health, so stay in gratitude and spend 5-10 minutes feeling in your nervous system what it is like to be in optimum health, mind, body and spirit. Hence, you train yourself in heart & mind coherence.

I love to support my liver seasonally, so I usually do the Metabolic Reset Pack before my holidays and Detox Pack or 30-Day Cleanse after the holidays. This way, I stay in the flow, ensure my mind and body stay strong and live lean and energised.

Like all organs, the liver will also thrive if your 7 Pillars of Wellness are balanced, nutrition, sleep, mindfulness, supplementation, movement, body balance and environment. Complete our Free Wellness Quiz twice a year to fine-tune what you need to focus on in your Wellness Profile.
