Why a Seasonal Cleanse Is the Best Gift for Your Gut

Now is the perfect time of the year to do a seasonal cleanse. The benefits are many, both physically and mentally. I've had thousands of clients benefit from a seasonal cleanse, and I always embark on mine after the Easter holidays (because I like to indulge in some yummy chocolate eggs during this time).

Most things in life, except for organic vegetables, cause a build-up of toxins and impair the gut, which impacts all 11 systems of the body. There are many gut-organ axes, including the gut-brain, gut-skin, gut-hormone (endocrine), gut-heart, gut-liver, gut-bone, gut-immune, and even the gut-vaginal axis!

Pollutants, chemicals, and hormones in our air, water, food, homes, hygiene products, etc., expose us to an alarming amount of toxins daily.

According to the Environmental Working Group (EWG), the federal law regulating hygiene products and makeup has remained unchanged since 1938, so they contribute to a substantial toxic load.

The FDA doesn't test the ingredients of these products for efficacy or safety. Only coloured additives require the agency's approval. The agency can't issue approvals on cosmetics or hygiene products either, which is a scary fact.

The average woman uses 12 such products daily, exposing her to 168 chemicals daily. According to the EWG, one in 13 women is exposed to a known or suspected carcinogen daily, while one in 23 men is. Taken together, that's 12.2 million adults.

It is vital to do a seasonal cleanse at least once a year.

Healing your gut is essential to your mental and physical health. The labyrinth of around 100 million neurons in our gut is so vast that some scientists have nicknamed it our "second brain."

The enteric nervous system has an abundance of neurons. It has more neurons than our peripheral nervous system and produces more serotonin (our happy hormone) than our actual brain.
