There are 7 Pillars of Wellness, and one of the most neglected ones is your Environmental Health Pillar. Our body thrives on negative ions from the earth and nature, but our 21st-century lives are very much inside. Homes, offices, schools, shops are all full of positive ions from electrical circuits and devices.
The list is long and it includes WiFi, Electro Magnetic Frequencies (EMF), PCB’s, Dioxins, outgassing of our carpets and furniture, round up sprayed on our food, toxins in our water, chemicals and hormones in our farm animals.
I know this can seem overwhelming, but we at Rejuv pride ourselves on taking something complex and breaking it down into bite-size pieces so that we can help you navigate this and thrive, living a life you love.
Boost Your Good Habits
As part of my Rejuv Good Habits Guide, I put together seven simple ways to address your toxic load and support your Environmental Wellness Pillar.
Here are the tips from week 4 of my Free Good Habits Guide, and you can download the complete guide here.
Week 4: Focus on Environmental Health and Supplementation
1. Add Vegan Mondays to Your Life
Embrace a lifestyle with a mini detox each week. As an example, I choose a green juice for breakfast, mixed Greek superfood salad (but I swap out the feta for 1/2 avocado) for lunch, snack on a Rejuv Gluten-Free Muffins with green tea and dinner a yummy warm stir fry, organic veggie soup garnished with vegan coconut yoghurt or veggies curry with coconut yoghurt or coconut milk, sauerkraut and pumpkin seeds.
Do you get ‘hangry’ or have an issue with comfort eating or low blood sugar? In that case, you can balance your blood sugar levels and boost your vegan protein intake with WelleCo Nourishing Protein as an excellent afternoon snack, or you can add it to make a smoothie for breakfast with plant milk & berries.
Vegan Mondays keep my life in check, for I love a few fun foods and vino on weekends, and since there is no such thing as a free lunch, I have fun on weekends but choose a day each week to cleanse. My kids also love weekend treats, so they go vegan on Monday too, but I add in complex carbs like potato, rice pasta, or brown rice for them.
I always incorporate our Rejuv Party Pack on weekends, so I support digestion, blood sugar regulation, immune system and my detox pathways, so I can literally have my cake and eat it too! Life is all about balance, after all.
2. Use Organic Hygiene & Household Products
It doesn’t have to happen overnight, but choose the organic versions moving forward once one item is finished. Swap your toothpaste, hygiene products and household cleaning products to benefit you and the environment and your environmental health. There are many varieties at the supermarket or health store like Earths Choice for the household and opt for an organic fluoride-free toothpaste.
For skincare, I love Arbonne, and they give our community 20% discounts (Use these links: Arbonne UK, Arbonne USA, Arbonne Australia). I’m also a big fan of KORA Organics.
3. Consider a Seasonal Cleanse
I do this two to three times a year when the seasons change. It is vital to cleanse to reset and heal the mind and body. This is very important for the toxins from our environment reduce our organs’ function, which blocks our detox pathways, causing stagnation and disease.
You wouldn’t drive your car all year and not have it serviced, so it makes sense to do at least one detox a year since this is the only body you have. Your car you can always upgrade, but as humans, we don’t have that choice, so let’s be kind and support our bodies, so they last the distance.
This could be as simple as going vegan for 30 days or if you would like something more structured, opt for our Rejuv Seasonal Cleanse with a complete wellness plan that supports your detox pathways and supports the body through a safe detox.
Our Metabolism Reset Pack is great if you only fancy a mini detox. Don’t forget that your home has a microbiome and needs a spring clean each year. If you use air conditioning, please have it checked for black mould as this is linked to cancer and disease, and if you see any mould in your home, it produces spores into your air that makes you very sick, so get it treated properly by professionals.
4. Filter Your Water
Invest in a water filter, and this doesn’t have to cost a bomb, but either opt for a bench-top filter or a little portable filter like the ones from Therasage. It will save you a fortune and be excellent for your environmental health.
Eating more organic fruits and veggies can also be prone to more parasites, so fill up your sink with filtered water and a cup of cloudy apple cider vinegar, soak for 5 mins, and then rinse.
You can make this even more effective by using the Therasage Ozone Bubbler in your sink water with your fruits and veggies to remove 100% of all parasites and pesticides. Use the code REJUV to get your discount from Therasage.
5. Eat Enough Good Fats
Eating good fats will boost your environmental health and make you feel mentally and physically strong. Most cooking oils are toxic and significantly reduce our health.
For cooking, please only use coconut oil or light olive oil (which says high heat on the label) or nuts oils.
For salads, your extra virgin olive oil is excellent. Please don’t heat it.
To naturally boost your good fats to protect your brain and organs, an add-in for lunch and dinner, either add 1/2 avocado, one handful of olives, 1 tbsp of hummus or guacamole, or one handful of unsalted nuts and seeds.
If you don’t like good fats or fish oil, opt for a capsule version like our Antarctic Krill Oil Capsules, which are ethically sourced, tiny easy to swallow capsules, with no fishy after taste.
6. Disconnect at Bedtime
Please turn off all WiFi at night, where possible, to give your nervous system a break. Turn off your bed lamps at the wall too. Your mobile phone and devices emit radiation you can’t see with the naked eye, so make sure it is in aeroplane mode and keep devices 3m away from your brain.
Invest in an alarm clock
Don’t keep your phone or devices under your pillow or on your bedside table as alarm clocks! Battery operated clocks are easy to find and a perfect solution to support your Environmental Health. Don’t forget to get grounded (especially if you live in an apartment) and get your bare feet on the earth; soil, grass, sand, it doesn’t matter.
Have a Bath
Epsom salt and magnesium flake baths or foot baths are also wonderful to ground you if ocean swimming is unavailable. You can also use grounding sheets for your bed and grounding mats like the ones from Groundology.
If you find it hard to get to sleep or stay asleep, add in our new Rejuv sleep formula – Bed Time Blend – herbal blend to support deep restorative sleep.
7. Support Your Immune System
Support your immune system as your body’s number one defence from viruses to cancer. Do all the above to support your seven wellness pillars, keep stress levels in check, choose organic food and plant-based whole food supplements, for they are bioavailable so your body can use those ingredients to heal itself and stay strong.
Your gut health is also vital for your mental and physical health (especially your immune system). If you have any IBS symptoms of bloating, wind, constipation, fatigue, cravings, etc., these are like warning lights on your car. Please don’t ignore them, for it costs a fraction to prevent disease compared to healing it.
If you feel you need gut health, try our Immune Restore Pack (since 70% of your immune system is found in your gut) or our Immune Boost Pack to reduce inflammation and give your body all it needs to get well and stay well. If you have kids, don’t forget to support their immune systems, too (see our kids plant-based range).
Self Support
Correct plant-based vegan supplementation is also vital for the function of your cells and organs to be protected in these positive ion environments. Food is medicine too, so of course, that is critical, but like a car, you need good fuel and ‘service your engine’ to stay in vibrant health.
